Ben Crump barratry” should be studied. Truly it’s a master class in how to manipulate the media. Abuse the law. And bilk money out of cities along the way. If you haven’t heard already, a faction of the George Floyd family just settled their lawsuit against the city of Minneapolis. The amount? $27,000,000. Maybe you think that’s fair. Some kind of retribution for the sins police or white people. But that’s not all they’ve got so far.

Last year they brought in about $20,000,000 through GoFundMe accounts. I mean life is priceless. But what kind of life insurance policy even pays out $50,000,000 for a man making no income? None that I know of. From the family’s perspective, you can never replace a person. But if you were the kind of treacherous lawyer that Crump is, you could certainly pay them for their troubles. He also makes a pretty penny (30% commission) on these kinds of settlements.

That means Crump just made his firm about $6,000,000.

I’ve written about this topic at length in my book, The Digital Lynching of George P. Floyd. Barratry, for those who don’t know, is a fancy word for ambulance chasing. There are other laws (especially in Minnesota where this all happened) that surround barratry. But it’s basically the act of imposing on a victim or their family. It is illegal for attorneys to prospect victims or their families the same day of an accident.

So this man just officially made millions of dollars from clients he obtained illegally. Just because they happened to make money from his 100% guarantee doesn’t mean it was right, either.
